This report examines provider experiences with serving LGBTQ runaway and homeless youth. The study seeks to learn about programs’ strategies for identifying and serving LGBTQ youth, the challenges agencies face in serving this population, and areas for future research.
Highlights
Agency staff identified a number of challenges, including a lack of resources that focus on LGBTQ youth.
Staff generally felt that homeless youth face similar types of risks, regardless of sexual orientation and gender identity.
Some types of risks, including emotional distress and problems with family relationships, were perceived to be more frequent for LGBTQ youth.
